2020 Virtual Race Series

With the absence of our normal races during the current Pandemic, NYPRA wants to help keep your competitive spirit alive with a digital race series for you to participate in.

The premise is very simple, log one of these courses using strava (free app, more info below) in a public activity, and it will be uploaded onto the segment for that race.  You will need to title your activity with which NYPRA class you are participating in and the names of the other paddlers if it is a class with multiple people.  At the end of the year we will look at all of the completed rankings and provide a special recognition for top athletes in this virtual category at the banquet.

About Strava: Strava is a free app that you can download on to your phone or have automatically synced with a modern day GPS watch (ie. Garmin Vivoactive 3).  You can record GPS activities either with your device or phone and they will be uploaded to this endurance sport social media platform.  On strava they have "segments" which are made from a specific GPS track from an activity.  Once a public segment is created you can then see where your personal performance ranks to others on that exact same course.
